Ausdance pioneered the Safe Dance ® guidelines which are now a benchmark nationally and internationally.

These Safe Dance ® practice guidelines include how to set up a safe learning environment, what makes a practice or performance venue safe, the importance of catering for different bodies and abilities, how movements might impact on the body, and simple injury prevention and management strategies.

Safe Dance® practice in the studio - the little steps that can make a big difference

During 2024 Australian Dance Week we got together for our annual Ausdance ACT Networking Morning Tea, this year with a focus on Safe Dance® practice. We were joined by guest speaker Jacqui Dimmock BA(Hons), MSc from the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science, who gave a participatory lecture on incorporating safe dance methods into teaching practice - our notion of physical safety has extended into psychological and emotional wellbeing for our artists and students.Jacqui's presentation is now available on our website member portal.
