PRESIDENT :: Lauren Honcope

BA LLB (UNSW 1978)
Legal Practitioner and Lecturer

Lauren is a Lecturer at the ANU College of Law. Before joining ANU Lauren was Deputy General Counsel in Litigation at the Australian Government Solicitor, where she led a team of commercial dispute lawyers. She has approximately 30 years of public legal practice and  policy management experience and has served on many community organisations.

Lauren learned ballet from the ages of 7 to 16, in Sydney.  She has been examined in Cecchetti and RAD systems.  She was a founding performer in Margaret Walker’s Dance Concert in the 1960s. In the 1980s she was a regular member, occasional teacher and occasional performer with CIFDA. Lauren was also Chair of Canberra’s Human Veins Dance Theatre, and was the first Chair of the Board of Canberra’s Meryl Tankard Company.

VICE-PRESIDENT :: Laura Pearce

Laura trained in the UK as a professional teacher and performer. She had her own dance school for 20 years teaching and training students in classical ballet, contemporary, tap, jazz and character. She migrated to Australia in 2003 and has taught classical ballet at National Capital Ballet School, QL2 and Canberra Dance Theatre. She also teaches Dance and Religious Education at Merici College.

Laura has choreographed several ballets for the National Capital Ballet School annual performances. She has recently choreographed ‘Cats’ for Free Rain Theatre Company and continues to direct and choreograph musicals in and around the ACT.

Nicole is the Strategic Financial Planner at JBWere, providing financial advice to clients in relation to their superannuation and overall financial structuring.

MEMBER :: Kym Degenhart

Kym has been teaching Dance for 16 years and has a Bachelor of Journalism, Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education specialising in Dance. She holds her ADA (formally known as Federal Association of Teachers of Dancing, Australia) Advanced Teachers Tap and Elementary Teachers Modern certificates. She is the Owner/Director of Bom Funk Dance Studio in Jerrrabomberra and the Head of Dance at Calwell High School.

In 2008-2009, Kym was the Principal Tap, Jazz & Hip Hop teacher at Glenda Allen Dance Academy in Hong Kong and in 2010 she moved to Canberra to be Principal instructor at a local dance studio. In 2011, Kym was the Arts Education tutor for Dance at the University of Canberra. Kym has had a 10 year international professional dance career, most notably as a Cancan dancer at the Moulin Rouge in Paris from 2004-2006. Another career highlight was being Principal dancer and Dance Captain for Dance Encore Productions at Zenboo in Tokyo from 2007-2008. She has also lived and danced in shows in Hong Kong, Wakura Onsen (Japan) and Sydney and toured to Rome, USA and Edinburgh.
Aside from performing, Kym was a writer for the Australian Dance teacher magazine & an Arts critic for the Townsville Bulletin. She has appeared in a number of TV shows, most notably as a host and translator for Japanese reality show, Ainori during its Australian tour. She also performed with Penelope Cruz on France’s Hit Machine. Kym has a certificate in Event Management and worked as an assistant at The Special Event Factory and worked behind the scenes for clients who include Guy Sebastian, Shannon Noll and the The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys (NRL).

Emma Dykes – Marketing and Administration

Emma Dykes has over 15 years experience working in performing arts management, marketing, media relations, customer service, event planning and PR.

As Programming Manager for the Canberra Theatre Centre, she has worked with leading companies and producers including Sydney Dance Company, Company B, Bell Shakespeare Company, Compagnie Philippe Genty, Circus Oz, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Sydney Theatre Company, The Australian Ballet and many more.

Prior to working at the Canberra Theatre Centre Emma worked as the Administrative Director of Paige Gordon & Performance Group, Office Manager & Venue Coordinator for Gorman House Arts Centre, Administrator for Canberra Youth Theatre and Project Administrator for Eulea Kiraly & The Company.

Emma is the former Deputy Convenor of the Cultural Facilities Corporation’s Performing Arts Advisory Committee.

Danielle White – Education and Administration

B.Ed (Primary Education)

Danielle began a long standing dance career 30 years ago when she fell in love with Ballet spending countless hours at Betsy Sawyers School of Dance. Her appreciation of all dance forms grew to include extensive training and performance in Jazz, Contemporary, Salsa, Street Funk and Hip Hop. With 17 years dance teaching experience and Primary Teaching under her belt, Danielle opened her own dance school in Jerrabomberra 8 years ago, to share the love of dance, teaching and performing with her students.

Danielle has also worked in the public service in administrative roles and has been with Ausdance since 2010 as the Projects Officer and as Co- Administrator since 2012.  After choreographing and dancing in Youth Dance Fest in ’94 and ’95, Danielle has been excited to once again be involved in that event and the wider activities of Ausdance ACT.
