2013 National Dance Forum

published on 30 November 2012

The second National Dance Forum (NDF2013) in Melbourne continues from the inaugural forum in 2011, and will encompass discussions and debates that have taken place since then in other forums. It will focus on the central question, “Why dance?” The forum will be a dynamic conversation for the whole dance sector—choreographers, dancers, independent artists, artistic directors, educators, dance producers.

NDF2013 will explore the unique qualities of dance as an artform and why we choose it as our mode of expression, communication or storytelling. It will embrace views from multiple perspectives: maker, dancer, educator, audience member and the broader community.

In contemporary Australia, what compels us to create and connect with dance? Is it social and political engagement? Is it creating a strong platform for the continuation of culture? How is dance communicating, and what is it doing in the world? Who are we dancing for, and how do we know what they see?

The National Dance Forum is a project of the Australia Council for the Arts and Ausdance National, presented in association with Footscray Community Arts Centre.  It is held in conjunction with Dance Massive.

Registrations will open soon.
